Customizing Your Browser Experience
© Channy Yun

Many people never really consider their internet browser. They use whatever one came standard with their computer. (Internet Explore for PC and Safari for Mac.) However, there is a choice when it comes to browsers. My choice is Firefox.

Why bother changing? The number one browser (for now) is Internet Explorer. Internet Explore has a firewall built in. This firewall protects you from viruses and other programs that can hurt your computer. Its like a metal detector that keeps bad things from getting in. But what about things getting out? Just because your office building has a metal detector doesn't mean Bob can't smuggle out a CD with all your client's phone numbers on it.

So imagine having a security guard who checks everyone on the way in and out. This called a double firewall. It protects both directions. Guess what? Firefox has one. Firefox actually has a lot more security features compared to Internet Explorer.

But the greatest thing about Firefox might be the ability to customize. Right now on Firefox's homepage you can "Fashion Your Firefox." In other words, you can customize your browser based on how you use the internet. Do you use the web for business, or just to google information? Or perhaps you're a social media junkie? Right now Firefox will give you suggestions on "plug-ins" that you can add to your browser (for free) that will make sure your online experience is smoother and personalized.

The future of technology revolves around customization. We all have different needs and interests. Our tools need to reflect that. At least go check Firefox out. Especially if you have IE 6, that's like the stone age.

Do you customize your browser? What's your favorite plug-in?
