Hello readers! Welcome to the first post of the Business Computer Blog.
The goal of this blog is to reach out to small business owners with some ideas about using technology within your business. Am I an engineer? Am I an IT support guy? Nope. I am a business owner. I have been for over three years after I made the break from a larger firm to start my own firm. My goal when I started my own firm was to establish a technologically proficient firm that would allow me to charge a lower rate than my competitors while giving the client better service. Along the way, we have purchased proprietary big name software, used open-source software, struggled under maintenance contracts, and have sat on the phone with the good, the bad and the ugly of customer support in creating our "technologically proficient" office.
40 years ago today, Apollo 11 took off towards the moon with work computers, according to an excellent article this week in Computer Weekly, that were less powerful and had less file storage than a standard USB memory stick has today. Certainly, our office is much more efficient than a law office of forty years ago. Technology has changed the world and it changes your business every day. Neil Armstrong said there were "great ideas undiscovered" and that is what we are looking for on this site - great ideas for your business.
Thanks to our great sponsors at Dell, I hope you enjoy my musings here and take away some value while contributing your own ideas.
