Facebook opens up on rack unit specs no comments
Through the Open Compute Project, Facebook has revealed details on how it plans to build a highly efficent and advanced data centre. Through their approach they have been able to deliver a 38 percent increase in energy efficiency at 24 percent lower cost.
Instead of choosing to configure their datacentre with the standard one unit rack or two unit rack, they have opted to go with the 1.5 rack unit, using larger fans for the servers while maintaining efficient use of their space.
The Open Compute Project is aimed at allowing users to share their ideas and designs to help promote efficient data centre layouts. They have provided enough detail of their architecture that competitors or start ups are able to replicate the structure.
